Preserving is a term that is used to keep something as fresh as it was the first time. But I believe only a picture preserves a moment in a way that adds value, and means more in time.

It might age but it will never lose its meaning or sentimental value. What is etched in the mind is the image AND the flood of memories that the picture evokes. It starts a train of thought that has lain dormant for many years and brings forth even the smell and sound of that moment. That is why I prefer to call a photograph is like a slice of time frozen for all eternity.

What is forever? It is a philosophical question that has many answers. For me, forever is NOW. That moment in time which is full of possibilities. Now is what is captured through a photograph. That moment in time is forever. No one knows how priceless a photo is until the moment is recollected through a photograph. So, you can say immortalizing the present moment is like putting a down payment for a beautiful memory that is stirred up when we pick up and look at that picture again, where different emotions are experienced at the same exact moment in different people.

Sometimes candid, sometimes posed, sometimes unseen, the photographer captures that laughter, that wistful look, that pregnant moment loaded with a nugget of genuine emotion. It is that human expression which in that candid moment is a pure human expression that is open, genuine, and is priceless. Imagine the delightful cries of surprise and wonder of looking at yourself, at your essence! For no photographer worth his salt would share for posterity the partly closed eye, or the chewing mouth, or the mustard, or ketchup, smeared around the mouth!
